Kwanaksan Hike, near Sadang Station, Seoul (관악산 사다역)

It was bright sunny morning on May 5, 2011, a perfect day for climbing mountain! I went for hike with 'Climbing in Korea (CIK)' group! The mountain name was Kwanaksan, near Sadang Station, height 629m.  The CIK organizers called it an "easy hike", though it turns out the other way! Random Fact# May 5 is a 'children's day' in Korea and a public holiday   The starting time of hike was 10.00am, and after some stretching we proceeded to the track!      There are around 23+ people. Countries of origin: Korea, USA, South Africa, UK, Pakistan, India, Newzeland     T he picturesque view of Seoul from Mountain looked awesome! Once I reached the first peak, somebody told me "that's it" now we have to climb down. My reply was: This is not fair, I want to climb more! Actually this was a joke and who knows there were yet 6 more peaks to climb! Few more peaks like this! Oh I need water!! Around 12.00pm, we stopped for lunch br...

TODAI/토다이 "What an Impeccable dinning experience!"

Out of nowhere, I get a chance to visit 'Todai' Sushi and Seafood restaurant located in COEX, Gangnam! My Korean lab mates keep telling me that it the most expensive restaurant in COEX, meanwhile, I was continuously checking money in my wallet as well as thinking about 'how to survive for the rest of month!'. The fascinating thing about the restaurant was its high quality of food. In addition to that, it was eatable for me and my other Pakistani colleague! while waiting for our turn, I took this pic of my colleagues!       Let me briefly mention about background of this visit! Our university (Kyung Hee University) is going to participate in World IT Show being held at COEX from 11-14 May, 2011. This is held every year and one important pillar of it is IT Research Center (ITRC Forum). There are around 70 universities that are part of ITRC forum under different themes such as Smart IT, Human IT, City IT, Eco IT, Network IT etc. Kyung Hee...

"Neighbors from a far /교실에서 만나는 먼나라 이웃나라"

Introduction:   I participated in a volunteer activity called “Neighbors from Afar/ 교실에서 만나는 먼나라 이웃나라" orchestrated by Seoul Metropolitan Government. The main objective of this activity program was to enhance mutual understanding and respect between Koreans and foreigners living in Seoul.  In this regard, I visited Unhyun Elementary School, to deliver lecture about my home country Pakistan (파키스탄). The audience of lecture were Grade-5 elementary students. Details:    The lecture start time was 9am in the morning; therefore I had to leave early from Kyung Hee University ( 경희대학교 ) Suwon Yeongtong. The journey was pretty smooth because of good transportation system. It took one hour to reach Anguk Station. We were greeted by school staff as well as couple of pleasant shouts from kids! The school was located at nice place with green lawns and trees surrounded by tall building. Mr. Donghoon Shin told us that hat we will be joined by JoongAng Daily news reporters ...

A rainy day out at Garosu-gil, Sinsa-dong

One rainy Sunday evening, I  visited Garosu-gil (가로수길) street located at Sinsa-dong. Gangnam-gu, Seoul (신사역-강남구 서울). The word garosu-gil literally means  literally means "tree-lined street". I was advised to go there during the day time, however, due to certain reasons I was able to visit at evening time. Surprisingly, the street termed as "tree-lined street" changed its perception and turned into a "rain cum romantic place" same as streets in Paris. The coffee shops with cozy outdoor seating placement let people enjoy the soft pouring rain with wonderful view of street under lights! Many people claim that this area is similar to Soho in New York or European street [reference: Wikipedia]. Rain has wiped out all the dust! It was start of spring season in Korea and cherry blossoms were not yet visible around Seoul. However, weather was getting warm and subsequently people were putting on spring clothes! The most attractive featured of Garosu-gil s...
